I don'tnow if this has brought up before,so I'll ask again: there's a daily comic strip here called Luann, which has lately featured a 'Strine boy named Quill. Is this a common name in Australia, or did the artist just make it up?

I still think they might prefer the water to 'recede' rather than 'reside'. Also, 'but' --> 'bit'.
Dave 09/02/2010 05:18 am
I'd bet it's short for a surname like 'McQuillan.'
Mr V 09/02/2010 09:45 am
Buggrit. Missed grammar and spelling again! Ta
Mr V 09/02/2010 09:46 am
Never heard of Luann, and a name of Quill could be short for a last name, but it might also be something to do with the quills of an echidna, perhaps?
The Doctor 09/02/2010 10:01 pm
Ok as a non-Aussie, I admit I completely missed the joke in this one, Mr V
Pyra 09/02/2010 11:14 pm
Start singing 'Waltzing Matilda'...It'll come to you.
Mr V 09/03/2010 12:25 am
Yeah, this one's a cultural joke. Look up the poem Pyra suggested.
The Doctor 09/03/2010 10:45 pm
YIKES!! Ok - I get it now. Helped to find out what a "billabong" was too
Mr V 09/03/2010 11:18 pm
Let alone a jumbuck
The Doctor 09/04/2010 11:11 pm
(wanders off, whistling "Waltzing Matilda")
Mr V 09/05/2010 10:35 am
Nine Hundred Strips! And... fittingly... it's been belting down rain all week here too
Talekyn [URL] 09/11/2010 05:45 pm
The Noah joke cracked me up.
Mr V 09/12/2010 07:58 pm
I love it when jokes I think are only passable to get the story underway end up making people laugh Thanks!
